The indictment prepared against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Ruken Demir, who was arrested in Izmir on November 16, 2019, was accepted by Izmir 19th Assize Court. The indictment charges the journalist with “illegal organisation membership” based on the news on hunger strikes and on the protests for Ida Mountains; with the first hearing of the case to be held on March 5. The Prosecutor used the expression, “so-called interviews” for the interviews made by the journalist for the news, claiming that the news “damage the country’s reputation” (!). Demir is charged with “creating a perception on a national and international level that Turkey is not a state of law and treats those arrested and convicted in prisons in an inhumane way.”
