In the application of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu after he was sentenced to compensation penalties following the lawsuits filed against him by President Erdoğan, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided that Turkey has violated Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights on the protection of freedom of expression and 13 thousand Euros to be paid to Kılıçdaroğlu. In the reasoned decree, the European Court of Human Rights indicated that the statements of Kılıçdaroğlu were on current events and they haven’t directly targeted Erdoğan’s personal life. The European Court of Human Rights further emphasized that the role of local courts isn’t to tell politicians the style they must prefer as they use their right to criticism.
