Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu announced the report he prepared on the rights violations experienced in January. According to the report, the number of journalists, writers and intellectuals convicted within freedom of expression and thought in January were six. One of three journalists detained in January was arrested. The number of people arrested due to their social media posts was ten and one person was convicted. The number of banned demonstrations, events and theater plays were six; the number of people detained due to press statements, events or other activities were 271 and the number of those arrested due to the same charges was three. 15 people were convicted in the lawsuits filed due to meetings and demonstrations.
