Ahmet Türk, Co-Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, was acquitted of the lawsuit filed against him for “making propaganda for an illegal organization”, which was used as justification for the appointment of a trustee. Ankara 14th High Criminal Court ruled that Türk’s speech in 2011 was within the scope of freedom of expression and that “the elements of the crime did not occur”. His lawyers had emphasized that the case had been reopened in 2014 despite being closed with non-prosecution. The Interior Ministry cited this case in its trustee decision in 2024.
