Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu shared the report prepared on the rights violations experienced in June. According to the report, 35 journalists and press workers were detained last month. Five journalists were arrested. Three newspapers and magazine offices were raided by the police. Four journalists and press workers were sentenced to imprisonment or judicial fine due to their journalistic activities; 12 journalists were acquitted and five journalists were released. The report indicated that 29 people were detained and arrested due to their social media posts. In the one-month period, 80 events were intervened by the police; at least 222 people were detained during such interventions. All events and activities were banned in four provinces with different durations. Tanrıkulu further indicated that rights to life of 231 people were violated as well as 93 cases of torture were experienced.
