As the first century come to a close since the abolishment of censorship in Turkey, the deadlock in Kurdish question creates a basis for serious rights violations. On the eve of the military operations in the South East region and cross border operations in Northern Iraq, repression on those who argue for dialog and political methods increased. Those who express opinion outside the official line of Turkish Armed Forces are criminalised and targeted. The first target of such repression is alternative media and press institutions. Newspapers get closed down, public are deprived of the right to have information. The story of Gündem newspaper is a case in point. Gündems reporters and distributors have been killed, offices have been bombed since the beginning of its first publication in 2004.
