HaberTürk Newspaper writer Nagehan Alçı, former Sabah Newspaper writer Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı and Korkusuz Newspaper writer Ümit Zileli were sentenced to imprisonment due to stating, “There was torture at Diyarbakır Prison between the years 1980 and 1983 under the administration of Esat Oktay Yıldıran.”
Sentencing the three columnists to 105 days of imprisonment each due to ‘insulting the memory of Yıldıran,’ Izmir 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance claimed that such allegations of torture could not be proven and that calling Yıldıran, who owns commendation medals, a “torturer” is an extrajudicial execution.
