Bernard van Leer Foundation’s Turkey Representative Yiğit Aksakoğlu, who was kept in Silivri Prison for 150 days, replied to each accusation against him within the Gezi Park indictment. “I keep my faith and hope up that we will soon be released, just like it is required with a state of law, and that all defendants of my case will soon be acquitted,” Aksakoğlu said.
Aksakoğlu indicated that the indictment is intended towards “implications” through creating a false perception by continuously repeating limited points. “It creates a new position, named ‘perception espionage,’ which is also an indicator for a fruitful imagination. However, it can neither present concrete allegations on the claims, nor evidence to prove them,” Aksakoğlu stated.
Aksakoğlu has been arrested in the night of November 17, 2018. He could only find out what he was accused on with the indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on February 20, 2019. The indictment claimed that 15 people, together with arrested businessman Osman Kavala and Aksakoğlu, were the “high administration” that organized the Gezi Park protests; the Prosecutor claimed “heavy life imprisonment” against Kavala and Aksakoğlu. The first hearing of the case will be held on June 24th at Silivri Prison.
