The court announced the final decree in the lawsuit filed against former Taraf Daily reporter Mehmet Baransu and the newspaper’s former directors Ahmet Altan, Yasemin Çongar and Yıldıray Oğur at the Istanbul 13th .assize Court on the allegation that they published the “Sovereign Operation Plan” belonging to the General Staff. Correspondent Mehmet Baransu was sentenced to 6 years in prison for “providing documents related to the security of the state” and 7 years for “disclosure of information regarding the security and political benefits of the state”. The court further sentenced Yasemin Çongar, Ahmet Altan and Yıldıray Oğur to 3 years and 4 months in prison each for “obtaining documents related to the security of the state”.
