Journalist Uğur Dündar stood trial once again after the Court of Cassation decree’s reversal of his conviction due to insulting the then-Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım through a column in 2014. In the hearing at Istanbul Küçükçekmece 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, the Prosecutor’s Office claimed that Dündar damaged Yıldırım’s honour, dignity and reputation and insulted him because of his duty with the expression in the column, “Thank God, his surname is Binali [thousand-Ali]! It could have been [million-Ali]!” The Prosecutor claimed an imprisonment sentence against Dündar for up to 2 years and 4 months.
