The Radio and Television Supreme Council sent an order to news channels and threatened them over the wildfires. The Council demanded that only the fires, which were taken under control, were to be broadcasted. In case only the burning places were broadcasted, the Council announced that the heaviest penalty will be issued against the channel. The Radio and Television Supreme Council claimed that the continuous broadcasting of ongoing wildfires is a style of broadcasting that is in line with the views of “circles expecting chaos”.
Radio and Television Supreme Council’s member from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), İlhan Taşçı indicated that Council Chairman Ebubekir Şahin threatened broadcasting agencies in Turkey and reacted against the situation. In a statement he made on Twitter, he wrote, “Turkey has turned into a fire zone, our lungs are burning. In the meantime, Radio and Television Supreme Council Chairman Ebubekir Şahin has threatened TV broadcasters through a ‘special line’ between the council and the broadcasters. In the message Şahin sent, he is threatening the channel owners with issuing the heaviest penalty against them in case they broadcast ongoing fires.”
