The new penitentiary execution regulation draft prepared by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) was presented to the Parliament. The Anti-Terror Law was left outside the scope of the new regulation, even though politicians, journalists and rights advocates are on trial in accordance with the law. 281 writers, academics, journalists and rights advocates launched a text with the title, “Unity and Solidarity is exactly for such times,” calling for justice in penalty executions.
The intellectuals stated that the government wants to release those, who have committed ‘crimes’ against other citizens; and to keep those, who resist the government’s authority against the threat of the Coronavirus. In other words, the intellectuals pointed out that the government intends to save the first group and leaves the latter to die, indicating that such a regulation “updates social discrimination and intensifies it in these difficult times, when humanity is going through a true issue of existence.” Please click here for details.
