Constitutional Court (AYM) issued 18 thousand TL compensation against the Ministry of Justice due to the torture against Adem Erdem in the prison he was convicted in, as well as due to lack of effective investigation on the matter.
Erdem was convicted at Izmir Type-F Prison and was beaten by the guards on August 13, 2005. Five guards were acquitted in the lawsuit filed afterwards due to lack of evidence. The verdict was reversed by the Court of Cassation and after the retrial, three defendants were sentenced to 2 years and six months of imprisonment due to torture. However, the Court of Cassation still hasn’t decided within the file for the last four years.
