The lawsuit filed against Evrensel Daily’s former Managing Editor Ismail Cem Şimşek due to three different news articles published on the rights violations at Tarsus Prison concluded with acquittal in the first hearing. The journalist had faced an imprisonment sentence for up to four years at Bakırköy 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance due to the news articles published on the newspaper in August with the titles, “Torture allegations at Tarsus,” “Tensions peak at Tarsus Prison” and “Brought from Afrin, forgotten in Prison.”
