Journalist Rojhat Doğru was released in the second hearing of the case he was on trial due to “disrupting the unity and the territorial integrity of state” and “willful injury.” The release verdict included judicial measures and a ban to travel abroad.
Attending the hearing at Diyarbakır 8th Assize Court through the Audiovisual Information System (SEGBIS) from Silivri Prison No.5, where he is arrested, Rojhat Doğru indicated that he wasn’t released due to the absence of the complainant in the previous hearing. Doğru’s lawyer Resul Tamur further indicated that the statements of the complainant are contradictory and that it is against the natural flow of life for his client to be using a gun on one hand and a camera on the other. Tamur reminded the court that his client was also injured as he was recording the visuals, indicating that he received an award for the “journalist of the year” with the visuals he recorded. Tamur also defended his client on the photos claimed to have “taken with terrorist organization members” which attempted to “relate the client with terrorist organizations,” stating that at the time the photos were taken, his client was sent to the region because of working as news cameraman for a TV channel broadcasted in Northern Iraq and that the photos were taken during that time.
